Two year old photoshoot for a boy... Ok, lets just get real! First all, getting a two year old to sit or stand still just isn't happening. There attention span is all of three minutes long. Here is what I do.
There is no key words, book of tricks, or impressive things to do. Just let them be them and have PATIENTS with them. Most boys love to be outside, in the dirt or playing. This two year old is my great nephew JP. When Taylor called me to do a family photoshoot I asked her some simple key questions. What does "he" like to do outside? She said fish, feed the cows and play in the dirt. I asked did he like any chairs or stools she used inside. She said yes, he has a rocking chair with his name on it. That was perfect. He has never been the one to smile a lot. As you can see there are many different faces of this two year old.
Two year old photoshoot day went something like, let him do what he wants to do. We went to his papa's pound where the cows where. Singing his favorite nursery songs and asking what sounds different animals make I was able to capture him in his element. Letting him walk around and coaching him to rock in his rocker a few times, I was able to capture a few smiles, grins and funny nose wrinkles. Boys! Once we got back to his house for an outfit change, his puppies and rocks were on his mind. My point is mainly allow them to be them and just capture those sweet moments. It doesn't always have to be posed to be a perfect photoshoot. Let them have fun with mom and love on her for those sweet tender hugs and kisses, riding daddies back or knee. Be ready! Those shots happen fast!
Two year old photoshoots can be fun or frustrating. You hold the key to that. Here are few tricks that I use... I have what I call the bag of tricks, do they always work No not always. Bubbles, gummies, suckers (sugar free clear kind), bells, squeaky toys, a bottle of water and even a feather duster. You completely have to turn into something or someone who thinks like a two year old does. A cough or a sneeze could even make them smile. Be silly and have fun!
